I didn’t expect much protection from this product. And plastic skid plates seem to be the current trend so I wanted to give it a chance. Sure enough the first rock I hit ripped the plastic. This style of skid plate will not last for my type of riding. Oops, my bad.
Very pleased with my purchases - 701 skid plate, case saver, side stand dongle, and can’t fault the service. Posted day of order and delivered UK within a week.
I can't attest to durability yet as I have only been on one ride so far. As far as installation goes it was a breeze. Easier to take on and off than my previous aluminium one which always need to be forced a bit to get the holes to line up. I order this plate because I wanted less noise and more coverage. This one goes way back and protects the brake cylinder as well as the shock linkage. The noise difference for me was very noticeable. At certain RPMS my alu plate would really bounce up a lot of harsh noise. I left the stickers off and the plate looks great.
Installed this a couple of days ago and I was impressed a bit by the thickness. This is my second UHMW skid plate I have installed and it is the thickest of the two.
Instructions were sufficient but left out a couple of small details like to leave the front mount loose assembled, secure the rear mount, and then tightened up the front mount. May be best to look for some videos showing the installation - I didn't think about it until after I installed it. Overall it was a pretty simple installation and if you work on your own bike you should have no issues with the installation.
Great protection from the front and bottom all the way past the shock. Where it may be an issue for some is protection on the side. The sides flex easily so they won’t keep engine side covers as protected over larger rocks as a wider metal guard but I don’t drop my bike as much anymore so probably worth the trade off. I was surprised to see the shock plate made of a lexan type material rather than a semi dense rubber but I’m sure there’s a reason. I’m not sure I’d recommend this for someone starting out and dropping their bike often or picking terrible lines but for confident riders I think this is the sweet spot. I have no regrets and would absolutely buy this again.
